Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning media critic and the creator of Tropes vs Women in Video Games, a critically acclaimed video series exploring the history of women’s representation in gaming that has garnered nearly 14 million views on YouTube alone. (2 seasons, 16 episodes.)
Anita has hosted, produced, and directed digital programing such as Ordinary Women: Daring to Defy History (5 episodes) and The FREQ Show (21 episodes) and is the director and producer of Queer Tropes (1 season). She is the host of the weekly podcast Feminist Frequency Radio. Anita’s first book, co-written with Ebony Adams, History vs Women: The Defiant Lives That They Don’t Want You To Know, excavates and reexamines the stories of women long forgotten.
As a cultural critic, Anita has been a featured guest on programming such as The Colbert Report, Melissa Harris-Perry on MSNBC, and Good Morning America, and been interviewed for The New York Times, The Guardian, and The New Yorker among others.
Anita was named one of TIME's 100 most influential people in the world, was the recipient of the 2016 Women’s Media Center’s Digital Media Award as well as the 2014 Game Developers Choice Ambassador Award. In 2016 she was awarded an honorary PhD from The New School in New York City.
